A Short Treatise on Leak Testing or Are There Leaks in Leak Testing

There has been much discussion on leak testing and our engineering team put together the following short explanation regarding the why's and wherefore's regarding what has become a controversial subject. While Sunbelt Software appreciates the unique value of independent security testing, we are skeptical of just how meaningful personal firewall “leak testing” really is. The key assumption of “leak testing” — namely, that it is somehow useful to measure the outbound protection afforded by personal firewalls in cases where malware has already executed on the test box — strikes us as a dubious basis on which to build a security assessment

Core Wars: The Battle to Change the Virtual World

This week the core wars got started with AMD launching a new Opteron part with a whopping 12 cores that, amazingly enough, fit into the same thermal envelope (meaning it’s as cool as) its prior four-core offering. This led Arthur Cole to ask “Are We Ready for a Multicore Universe?” Intel responded the following day with an eight-core part with hyperthreading (16 virtual cores) that fit in the same thermal envelope as its old four-core offering.

Pat Gelsinger: Turning EMC into a Shark

EMC is a powerful player in the storage business, but the storage business in general is defined by relatively slow-moving companies that largely focus on customer relationships and generally treat each other surprisingly well.  Intel, by comparison, is far from slow moving or “nice” and is more a of fast-moving shark in its segment.

4th (4G) Generation iPhone to be annouced on June 22nd 2010

And so as told by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). Soon after the news broke, we were informed that the next-generation iPhone would be announced on June 22nd (a Tuesday, naturally) and would be dubbed the iPhone HD (a name that has been tossed around before). That certainly makes sense given that Apple almost certainly has to up the pixel count in order to rival the EVO 4G, HD2 and all of those other high-res handsets, but we’re still reserving judgment until we see that fateful media invite hit our inbox.

Windows Phone 7 OS on an HTC HD2

Those who like to tinker will like this : A group of Russian hackers have done something that Microsoft said wouldn’t happen – shoehorned a working Windows Phone 7 Series OS ROM onto an HTC HD2 handset . Remember though that this “upgrade” from Windows Mobile to Windows Phone 7 OS breaks some stuff … like copy’n’paste and multitasking! FYI, this is NOT official. If things go wrong/break/your handset turns to the dark side, you are on your own!
