Phone sales up 19 percent, Apple up 130 percent, report says

Phone sales grew 19 percent in the first quarter, according to a new report from ABI Research , which noted that sales of 3G handsets overtook those of 2G handsets. The company is predicting 1.3 billion phones will be sold this year.

O2 Add Laptops With Built In Mobile Broadband

O2 ( www.o2.co.uk/laptops ) has added two new laptops with built in mobile broadband to its range of mobile broadband free laptop packages. Exclusive to O2, the two new laptops with embedded SIM cards are the Samsung N150 netbook, which is available online now and the Asus UL30A laptop which will be available in May. Kirkland’s Bungie signs huge post-Halo deal with Activision

Kirkland game studio Bungie, the creator of the hit “Halo” franchise for Microsoft, today announced a mondo publishing deal that will make Activision Blizzard the exclusive publisher of its next franchise for 10 years. Bungie spent two years developing an entirely new game that will be released sometime after its “Halo” finale, “Halo: Reach” is released by Microsoft this fall. A value wasn’t placed on the deal, but the entertainment franchise at stake is likely to be worth more than $1 billion and consume millions of hours of people’s time.

Considering a regular windows user who likes to keep his windows turned on even during night to that he can download softwares, movies in free hours there is lot of power in turn electricity consumed even if he is not using his computer for certain hours. OLPC Deliver 2,100 Machines To Gaza

The children of the Gaza Strip are busy working on their new OLPC machines that were recently delivered through United Nations project which is aiming to get half a million of these useful little laptops into the area and into the hands of these children. The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) arranges for the children in the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan to get schooling and these computers make that job a little bit easier. Office Web Apps better then Open Office for .docx on Linux

I’ve been reviewing Office and SharePoint 2010, and trying out Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, so I thought I would put the two together with a small experiment. I borrowed a document from Microsoft’s press materials for Office 2010. Perhaps surprisingly, they are in .doc format, not the Open XML .docx that was introduced in Office 2007.

Ubuntu Lucid Lynx great as ever, no game changer

I’ve upgraded my laptop to Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, and I’m using it to type this post. Ubuntu Lucid Lynx is a “long term support” edition,  making it suitable for businesses. The upgrade from Karmic, the previous version, went relatively smoothly.
