Are there alternatives to OneNote?

After I destroyed what credibility I had left with the Open Source community last week, gushing over Office 2010 and, in particular, OneNote, a Mac user emailed me and asked if I knew of any cross-platform tools that were similar to OneNote. I figured it was worth taking a step back from my love

No more exploding batteries

We have not heard many stories of exploding laptop batteries recently, but there are lithium-ion batteries still out there in laptop world and so there is always the possibility of one of them exploding. However, it seems that there could be a solution to the problem as researchers at Cambridge University have been looking into the chemistry involved within the battery using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. This is somewhat technical, but at least they appear to have found what is wrong, it seems to be a build up of fibres lithium on the carbon anodes

(#21-30) – The 50 Best Rock Albums of the Decade, 2000-2009

Originally posted 2009-12-31 23:34:09. By Chris Moore: After releasing the bottom twenty of my top fifty rock albums of the decade list yesterday, I return to drop in ten more.  Unlike yesterday, I’ve included brief annotations about each album — my reasoning for picking the album, critical stances, related stories, etc.  Of course, nothing I could say in two or three sentences could ever be enough to fully describe these records.  I ask you to accept my words as the following: a teaser trailer of sorts if you have yet to hear the album in question, or a reminder of why the albums you’ve already heard were so excellent. As this segment of the list begins to suggest, there are some years in rock music that were simply better than others.  For instance, seven of these ten tracks come from the past three years.  When I was ranking these works, I purposely chose not to include the years, so as not to color my thoughts.  But, as you’ll see later and as you may have guessed, some years are better than others

The Dead Weather’s “Sea of Cowards” (2010) – Yes, No, or Maybe So

The Dead Weather’s Sea of Cowards (2010) – MAYBE SO By Chris Moore: Sea of Cowards (2010) by the Dead Weather (May 11, 2010) Review : Tighter and yet even more frenetic than their debut, Sea of Cowards is a fast-paced, distortion-drenched hard rock romp through eleven solid tracks, made all the better for the sharing of vocal duties between Alison Mosshart and Jack White:  this album is the realization — and only a year later! — of what I had been hoping for when I referred to the great potential expressed in Horehound (2009).

Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions Information Round Up, Plus New Gameplay Footage

I was very excited about the Spider-Man Web of Shadows game that came out not too long ago. The build up to it was pretty well done and the gameplay footage looked interesting and different enough that it gave me hope for a gaming experience worthy of its “amazing” super hero. And while it wasn’t bad by any stretch of the imagination, Spider-Man Web of Shadows became very repetitive after a few hours, with the sandbox style power up missions causing me to lose interest in a game I desperately wanted to love

Activision Domain Registration Trademark Warfare

While my favorite title, “Sesame Street Warfare”, was not snatched up by Activision, the publisher did launch a domain registration and trademarking extravaganza claiming ownership to a long list of URLs and titles including “ Future Warfare “, “ Advanced Warfare “, “ Secret Warfare “, and even “ Space Warfare ” — all of which were trademarked both with and without the “Call of Duty” brand name attached. The recent barrage could be seen as an all out effort to protect themselves from the newly formed (and EA backed) Respawn Studios. Respawn is the creation of Jason West and Vince Zampella, two former Infinity Ward leads who were escorted out of their offices by Activision hired muscle a few short months ago

Panasonic Viera D28 (TX-L32D28) review

The 32-inch, 1080p TX-L32D28 LCD TV with LED edge lights isn’t exactly cheap, but it’s stuffed full of useful features. Its built-in Freeview HD and freesat HD tuners are particularly pleasing, and its picture quality with both standard- and high-definition material is good
