Teacher Fluency with IT for ACTIVE Learning

I’ve been developing the outline of a Trainer’s Training Course that combines Fluency with IT (using Lawrence Snyder ‘s 2nd Edition , and the BeneFIT site at UWash) with constructivist approaches to Educational Technology (using Grabe & Grabe, I only have the 2nd Edition, a 4th Edition is out), both adapted to the local situation in Cebu. Actually, it will only cover half of Snyder’s book on FIT, up to spreadsheets and security. I am dividing it into four modules, I’ll post details later when they are more stable

Windows Vista Feb 2006 CTP Rocks on Tablet PC!

When we first started this blog, last summer, Beta 1 of Windows Vista had just become available. Looking back, it seems we had to make a lot of noise about how to get Windows Vista bits working on Tablet PC. Wow, what a difference a Beta makes! Actually, we’re still some time away from a formal “Beta 2″ release, but I feel somebody should report on our progress… we released a new CTP a few weeks ago (Feb 2006) which is a snapshot of our Beta 2 work — available for download by MSDN Subscribers — and if I may say so, the overall experience on my Tablet PC is really quite nice.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 6 — This is Carla Christoff, your Mango Tango laptop bag style consultant reporting live from the floor of the 2006 International Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, where I must regretfully inform you, my fellow laptop-lugging fashionistas, that it is a sad, sad day for women who want to carry laptop bags of style. Amidst the hundreds of thousands of gadget-worshiping gadflies and technology gurus that have gathered here in the city of excess to showcase their latest versions and greatest excursions (into cyberspace); nary has an innovation been made in the laptop bag sector.

Lots of love for old laptops

This post made me appreciate my (comparatively) ancient Macintosh G3 Powerbook, from before Firewire replaced SCSI. I had to hack it with some crazy firmware patch to make 10.3 go on nicely, but it’s honestly my favorite computer because it just sorta works, and was super-cheap for a computer this useful.

re: Another dead computer: My personal laptop

Twice a year reformats?? I’m still running the installation of Windows XP I put on here two years ago when I built the machine. Since then it’s had a few betas and release candidates of XP SP2, and a number of VS2005 “Whidbey” Betas and CTPs, as well as ‘Avalon’ and ‘Indigo’ CTPs and SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 and post-Beta 2 CTPs.
