With this new found time, comes great responsiblity (and procrastination)

It’s important but not Urgent! With term ended a week ago, had about a whiff of freedom and lots to procrastinate, well so as it had been now. I remembered dreading the long days in lectures and supervisions of the previous term, always hoping for some breather off so I can consolidate and get work on track

Game sales jump, "Modern Warfare 2" bumps "Halo 3" record

U.S. video game sales fell 7.6 percent last month compared with a year ago but “still produced enough revenue to make this month the second-best November in industry history,” NPD analyst Anita Frazier said in her firm’s latest report on the industry

Rip of the Week: Blagojevich Lawyers’ Computers Stolen, Evidence Gone

The saga of disgraced former Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich continues, as the Chicago Breaking News Center reports that eight computers and a safe were stolen in a burglary at the law offices of Sam Adam and his son, Sam Adam Jr. One computer contained “undercover recordings from the sweeping corruption case.” Apparently the data was backed up (to other computers in the office that were not stolen), so now it’s more of a question about who has the data.

Analyst: Sprint & T-Mobile to merge

Citigroup analyst Michael Rollins said Sprint Nextel is likely to merge with Bellevue-based T-Mobile USA next year, driving a surge in Sprint’s stock today, according to a Bloomberg News report . Rollins said there’s a 55 percent chance Sprint will merge with T-Mobile and raised his rating on Sprint to “buy” from “hold.” If that’s the case, I’ll bet there’s a 55 percent chance the combined company takes a bigger share of Kirkland-based Clearwire, which is already part owned by Sprint and talking to T-Mobile about 4G services

Onkyo’s DX Dual-Screen Laptop

Not too long ago I posted a story here about Japanese company Kohjinsha’s prototype dual-screen swivel netbook . Well in response to the innovative new technology, the designers over at Onkyo have developed their own dual screened laptop and while Kohjinsha did come out with one first, Onkyo, it seems, has significantly raised the bar. As promised at CEATEC, Onkyo’s laptop offers dual 10.1-inch 1,366×768 pixel LCD displays as opposed to the 10.1-inch 1,024×600 pixel LCD displays seen on Kohjinsha’s laptop.

Spilling the beans over studentbeans

Woohoo better-than-dominos quality pizza with the same 2 for 1 offer in a restaurant, how else can it be better? Apparently it’s possible with coupons! and lots of them! Headed up to Pizza express situated near Jesus College with the gang for dinner recently, the chow down was definitely not possible without the website my friends discovered while hunting for the best food deals in town. This funky website goes by the name of Student beans and can be useful if you are a student on a budget here

Tip of the Week: Ensure Comprehensive, Not Selective, Encryption

It’s becoming clearer these days that not only are organizations woefully “behind” on their data security projects, but even those who do take action tend to leave their infrastructure only moderately secure. An interesting article based on a survey from Information Week highlights some of the issues, not the least of which is that only 14% of survey respondents say encryption is “pervasive” in their organizations, and only 38% encrypt data on mobile devices. Furthermore, 31% characterize the extent of their use as “just enough to meet regulatory requirements.” Rather than bantering statistics around all day, it’s important to focus on the key issues (no pun intended), and a generally distasteful attitude toward security is clearly pervasive

Can Google really hack it in business?

A couple of months ago I tried Google Apps Premiere, and found a series of problems mainly synchronisation to mobile devices . I posted about those problems and was contact by a Google product manager who offered to monitor my account to try and find out why those problems happened. Nothing came out of it so I decided to move my account to Microsoft BPOS
