Noah Hart has ported SQLite to C# . I was intrigued to see whether the code could be adapted to run in Silverlight, which has a cut-down .NET Framework and prohibits platform invoke to native code. I hacked away at his code until it ran in Silverlight : Note that the sole purpose of the exercise was to see if SQLite could be made to run, not to prepare a port that is production-ready or even code that is fit to check-in

When you’re setting up your new HDTV, you’re likely to find fewer analog video connections but more HDMI inputs. Some of the LCD and plasma TVs we’ve tested recently ( Ratings are available to subscribers) from Insignia, LG, and Samsung don’t have S-video inputs and others lack both S-video and composite-video connections. The high-priced Sony Bravia KLV-40ZX1M has nothing but a single HDMI input, evidently intended to be used with a receiver that handles all the other connections.

In a very welcome move, BNZ has decided to stop charging honour fees – those $20 the bank charged every time they approved a payment when your account balance was in the red. In a letter to customers BNZ says the bank will see a reduction in revenue but there will be no increase in other fees. Their CEO says they are doing this because many complaints come from these fees

On the left, you see the E-Z Go Spine Extractor , it’s purpose: “Removal of undesirable fish spine and other living things has never been easier! For immediate taste-pleasure and easy disposal.” The spine extractor, although authentic in both cheap design and Engrish product pitch, is a spoof. As is the rather handy looking box next to it, the Yu Wan Mei Device , which “has been completed and is now available for sale.” These parodies are what happens when the Onion gets into gadget marketing, and like anything the Onion does, they’re so close to the truth of our day-to-day gizmo-hunting life that a few tears of knowing pain slip between the mirthful drops from our laughing, watering eyes

China has banned websites featuring or publicizing online games which glamorize mafia gangs, saying violators will be “severely punished,” state media reported on Tuesday. The Culture Ministry said such games “advocate obscenity, gambling, or violence,” and “undermine morality and Chinese traditional culture,” the official Xinhua news agency said.

Hackers have defaced the website of Australia’s biggest film festival which refused to withdraw a documentary about exiled Uighur leader Rebiya Kadeer, organizers said on Monday. The Chinese government two weeks ago protested to the Melbourne International Film Festival over the inclusion of the documentary and last week three Chinese films were withdrawn in protest at Kadeer’s planned attendance at the August 8 premiere. Beijing has blamed Kadeer for instigating this month’s ethnic riots in Urumqi in Xinjiang in which almost 200 people died.

Looks like Samsung is going to beat LG to the punch with the release of its S9110 watch phone due to hit stores before the rival LG GD910 – in France anyway. Aimed at Dick Tracy fans and gadget lovers alike the S9110 even manages to squeeze a few more features into its diminutive body, including a larger 1.76-inch touchscreen (to the GD910’s 1.43-inch), Bluetooth 2.1 and Outlook email sync. Like the LG GD910, the Samsung offering also packs an MP3 player, speakerphone, and voice recognition.

When Sharp brought out the all new Mebius with that extra little touch screen people were not too impressed with the thought of having a laptop running on a battery that has two screens to power up is not going to last anywhere near the three hour estimated battery life. In fact, experts believe that it may not even last enough time to take it out in the first place. However, that should not be a problem at all because a Sharp executive has said that this computer is not meant for the mobile computing market, this should be left on your desk at home or at work
