Just about everything people say on Twitter is public, offering marketers a rare chance to listen in on what folks are saying about their brands, and to trumpet their messages to the masses. But Twitter users fail spectacularly when it comes to disseminating branding messages to each other

A laptop computer or simply laptop (also notebook computer or notebook) is a small mobile personal computer, usually weighing from two to six pounds (one to three kilograms), depending on size, materials and other factors. While the terms “laptop” and “notebook” are often used interchangeably, “laptop” is the older term, introduced in 1983 with the Gavilan SC.

It seems my previous posts on the iPad 3G coverage in New Zealand have hit something – a lot of people thought I was supporting one network operator or another. Not at all – it’s just to let people know where they would get more from their new mobile device and why.

Everyone heard about the Hell Pizza database leak, but what is only now showing up in the media is a story that seems to be developing for more than twelve months. Back in August 2009 some Geekzone users reported receiving spam on email addresses used only with Hell Pizza’s online ordering system . At the time someone posted in our forums on behalf of Hell Pizza saying “we don’t sell email addresses (very bad), nor have we been hacked (our web servers are behind dedicated, monitored firewalls)

The Department of Energy launched a new blog last week, the aptly named (yet uninspiring) Energy Blog. Among other announcements and musings (OK, really more statements than deep thoughts) is a call to develop three Energy Innovation Hubs, one of which will drive research to turn sunlight into fuels.

The iPad is about to have its academic chops put to the test this fall in a number of programs around the country. Colleges and universities are looking to adopt the iPad as a collaborative tool, a standardized mobile device to integrate into curriculums, and, in some cases, even a cost-saving device

The Apple iPad was launched today and I’ve seen some comments on Twitter about 3G coverage. First thing to understand where you will get 3G coverage is to know which “type” of 3G the iPad can “see”. The Apple iPad (first generation) works on 850 MHz and 2100 MHz WCDMA bands

Our Geekzone forums have been very busy this week with reports of 2degrees making their new 3G network available for public use throughout New Zealand the last week or so. 2degrees is New Zealand’s third mobile operator, with its own mobile network in the main centres and elsewhere using Vodafone New Zealand’s network

The actual device is merely the shape and size of a pen but it connects to the laptop through the USB port so now the results can be seen on the screen and in great detail too. The device can magnify from x10 to x200 magnification and the built in LED’s make sure that there is light on the subject too. This device will work with Windows XP, Vista and 7, while it comes with all the software needed

At the moment, there is only one tablet towering above the rest, the Apple iPad, but that could be about to change when Asus launches the much awaited EeePad EP101TC early next year. The EeePad was seen at the Computex 2010 event but then it was clearly running Windows EC7, but something has changed the maker mind and now they are switching to providing the tablet running the Google OS Android. Asus are keeping this fairly quiet at the moment, probably because HP is preparing their version of the tablet running the webOS and due out early 2011! Alienware and its PR people have put together some video clips featuring messieurs Ampzz McDonald and Prawny Beaumont talking about the pros and cons of PCs versus gaming consoles, which may or may not interest you. As it happens, I had an Xbox 360 Elite here for a while and can appreciate the slick user experience. The Xbox 360 just works, is quiet, doesn’t look too ugly and anyone can use it.

Yes, that’s the truth: Seeby Woodhouse’s merry band at Orcon were first in New Zealand with iPhones by a country mile. In fact, Orcon may have had iPhones in New Zealand as early as 1997; I’ve asked Seeby to give me the history behind the devices and how well they fared in this market, so hope he’ll do just that. These early iPhones weren’t quite as as mobile as the present generation, nor were they 3G
