A-DATA N95 External HD is Ultra Lightweight and Colorful
Portable hard drives are a total godsend for us torrent hoarders, but they’re not exactly the easiest things to bring around if you want to take your files out with your notebook or laptop. Enter the newest hard drive from A-DATA, the ultra lightweight N95. Not only is it the slimmest external hard drive around at just 12mm thick; it only weighs a mere 152g thanks to its aluminum casing! As if that isn’t enough reason to want one, the A-DATA N95 is available in three vivid colors – cherry pink, ocean blue, and light silver – and a tailored leather pouch.

True bargain shoppers know all the tricks; like asking for a discount when the shirt you want has a tiny stain on it, offering $100 less for the floor model of a vacuum or bike, and scouring the returned rack. What these bargain shoppers might not know is that the same principles not only apply, but can be quite successful when evaluating used computers for potential purchase as well. Refurbished or reconditioned computers are those that have been returned to the manufacturer for a wide variety of reasons, including simple canceled orders.

Interesting: back on May 27, my Tip of the Week was entitled “Assume Your Employees Ignore You.” I described how employees really pay little attention to company policy, or even actively break it. Then, two weeks (to the day) later, Ponemon Institute released another superb study , sponsored by IronKey, this time entitled “Trends in Insider Compliance with Data Security Policies” with the following subtitle: “Employees Evade and Ignore Security Policies” If you are tempted to accuse me of collusion or conspiracy here, as if I was actually in on the Ponemon study, hold back! I had no involvement and knew nothing of the impending release

For many, the thought of upgrading laptop hardware induces a cold sweat, especially those operating business networks of multiple computers and sensitive data. The decision to make a laptop computer upgrade need not be so terrifying however, and there are several questions to ask before committing one way or the other. In some cases, the performance desired might necessitate the purchase of a new laptop instead of attempting to update an old one

The new Nokia E72 was unveiled at the Nokia Connection 2009 in Singapore yesterday and was described to be “swift, slim, and resourceful.” This is the cellphone that I will definitely buy when it is released in the third quarter of this year. This new QWERTY device certainly delivers what it promises, and what it promises is a rich mobile e-mail and instant messaging experience solution. Based on its best-selling predecessor, the Nokia E71, the latest in the Nokia E-series family maintains the essential elements of the E71 and a lot of improvements in various areas

I’ll need to directly address one of the three most common myths I encounter. The myth: “I don’t have any sensitive data on my laptop.” Some businesses and individuals are, thankfully, quick to admit that when their laptops go missing, they’ll be in a world of hurt (and not because of the hardware). But it’s amazing how many people will say “I don’t really have anything sensitive on my laptop.” Even businesspeople say this! In response, I have very often offered The Bet.

Tip of the Week: Stop Denying Your Risk
Laptop owners, there is definitely one thing that you need be very concerned about. This is making backup copies of every one of your workstation documents and programs. Taking into account, if your PC is hurt with a virus of any sort that threatens to destroy it, you will not lose precious information.

This post made me appreciate my (comparatively) ancient Macintosh G3 Powerbook, from before Firewire replaced SCSI. I had to hack it with some crazy firmware patch to make 10.3 go on nicely, but it’s honestly my favorite computer because it just sorta works, and was super-cheap for a computer this useful.

Twice a year reformats?? I’m still running the installation of Windows XP I put on here two years ago when I built the machine. Since then it’s had a few betas and release candidates of XP SP2, and a number of VS2005 “Whidbey” Betas and CTPs, as well as ‘Avalon’ and ‘Indigo’ CTPs and SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 and post-Beta 2 CTPs.
