SAN FRANCISCO , Jan. 31 (UPI) — The recent series of California storms dumped about 170 million gallons of partially processed sewage into the San Francisco Bay, an environmental group says. The San Francisco Baykeeper group says this was in addition to 630,000 gallons of raw sewage the storms dumped into the bay in 47 locations, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Sunday.

The most recent measurements, released Friday, put the snow pack at 115 percent of normal for this time of year, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Saturday.

So, we bombed the Moon with LCROSS, and NASA says the experiment worked, throwing up enough debris into the atmosphere that photo analysis shows that there is a “significant amount” of water buried/present/existing on the Moon. I’m guessing we’re going to see a new space race to claim all that water here shortly. Soon thereafter that we’ll start seeing bottled water from the Moon on store shelves

Perhaps the move will lead to new partnerships between the two companies. German company Elster has been seeing rapid growth in smart meter deployments, along with its big rivals Itron, Landis+Gyr, General Electric and Sensus, and also makes gear to manage other parts of the so-called “smart grid” (see Green Light post)

Dow Chemical, the chemical manufacturer that plans to release roofing tiles with integrated copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) solar cells next year, has inked a multimillion dollar research alliance with Caltech to experiment with next generation solar cells. The goal will be to identify relatively earth-abundant materials that can be exploited to develop future, cheaper solar cells. Caltech doesn’t get the same sort of adulation in the press as MIT or Stanford, but the school has given birth to a few interesting energy startups.
