Savvy eReader fanatics noticed that the Kindle 2 was listed as unavailable on Amazon’s site earlier today, leading many to surmise that a new Kindle was on the way. Not surprising since a new DX just landed with an improved screen and new features.

Amid growing competition from Apple’s iPad and other e-readers, Amazon.com is launching a redesigned Kindle that’s smaller, faster and has WiFi and twice the battery life. The $189 price and 6-inch screen size are the same, but the new version has an improved navigation system that replaces the Kindle’s quirky joystick with a more standard control pad. It also has the higher-contrast display that debuted last month on the larger Kindle DX

Conroy supposedly backs NBN opt-out

Communications Minister Stephen Conroy appears to have backed a so-called ‘opt-out’ model for the National Broadband Network where Australians would be required to choose not to have fibre internet connected to their premises – as opposed to the current model where they must opt-in.
