A peek inside Tesla’s Seattle showroom, wow

As in wow, there’s a ton of work to do before the Seattle showroom — Tesla’s fourth in the U.S. – opens for a customer event Friday night. When I dropped by this afternoon, a truck was unloading sheetrock to cover the bare stud walls and workers were hustling around, clearing rubble, painting trim and cleaning up dust

The announcement made in March 2009 that there is a Google-Sony team up to fight Amazon Kindle has raised quite a few questions. While the Amazon Kindle has been stealing headlines and other means of getting attention from the Sony Reader, will this new alliance give the Sony Reader the competitive edge it is looking for? Mobile Phone Free Television

by Patricia Montana Over the past few years mobile prices have fallen, whilst the cost of mobile contracts sold by the network providers has remained pretty well unchanged (but you do get more inclusive airtime that said, you can get more inclusive texts and minutes than you once did). This means that the value of a mobile phone is comparatively less than it used to be when compared against the total price of a mobile phone contract. At one time cell phone retailers would give away free handse

Microsoft contributes code to Linux, best frenemies forever?

Mary Jo has the headline — ” Pigs do fly ” — that captures Microsoft’s contribution of 20,000 lines of code to the Linux kernel community. The contribution was announced today at the OSCON open-source conference in San Jose, Calif. It’s the latest effort by Microsoft to present itself as enlightened and respectful toward the nemesis used by many of its enterprise customers, while at the same time making Microsoft’s virtualization software more valuable to them.

Could the Cloud Kill the PBX?

My first job actually working for a tech company was with ROLM Systems, which built the most advanced PBX (business phone system, it stands for private branch exchange) for its time.  It was so advanced, we felt we could rename it a CBX (the “C” stood for computer-controlled) and we used computer technology to massively advance the art. You can still find ROLM phones around even though they were discontinued for the most part in the late ’80s. Some of our more advanced systems could still outperform, in terms of technology convergence, much of what is on the market today.

Paws-On: Enviro-Bear 2010 for iPhone Is a Riveting Ride

iPhone developer John Smith deserves a design award for Enviro-Bear 2010 , the most mind-blowingly awesome iPhone game ever made. The objective of the game is quite serious: You are a bear driving a car in a race against time to find enough stuff to eat before going into hibernation; winter arrives any minute now! For sustenance, you collect fish and berries that smash into your windshield. The challenge lies in what is presumably the bear’s handicap: He appears to be mostly amputated, with only one paw to maneuver the vehicle and grab his prey.

Ever taken your car or motorcycle for a spin and pretended that you’re Batman, racing through the dark streets of Gotham to release your anger by beating petty criminals to pulp? Then we may be able to interest you in the Dark Knight Leather Motorcycle Suit, an officially licensed replica of Batman’s S&M getup from the last two movies. This suit is tailor-made for our own Brian X Chen, who splits his days equally between personality-building activities: Kittens (shows sensitive side), work (what better place to practise your Twittering skills?) and searching the internet for leather biker boots ([redacted])
