Ad Age: Microsoft and Yahoo finalizing search deal
Get ready for Microsoft and Yahoo to announce their search partnership this week, according to a strong report by Advertising Age . It said the deal’s being finalized, with last minute haggling over how much Microsoft will pay up front and how the Bing brand will appear on Yahoo searches. An excerpt: The deal, which would make Microsoft a more credible competitor to Google, is likely to be announced this week, and seems likely to be based on a revenue share, not on a big fat check upfront, as some at Yahoo had hoped.

The New York Times has investigated the reported suicide of an employee of Foxconn, which manufactures Apple’s iPhones in Taiwan. The most illuminating piece of the story is buried at the end, where the reporter discloses that a security officer threatened to “beat up” his translator if she persisted in questioning the victim’s family. Foxconn is under fire for the death of Sun Danyong , a 25-year-old employee who reportedly jumped from a 12-story building after misplacing a prototype of the fourth-generation iPhone.

However, Cisco predicts that increased collaboration between organizations, like what we saw with Conficker, and new security policies may make it more difficult for attacks to infiltrate and spread. The Midyear Security Report provides an overview of Cisco security intelligence, including information about new threats and trends, for the first half of 2009.

Amongst the real gadget gems in Sierra Club Green Home’s “50 green Gadgets” list, there are some hilariously under-thought items. For every solar-powered Nintendo Wii system, there’s a Helios Solar Grill (the monstrosity above), which actually pipes heat from its parabolic sun-gatherer through to the grill on the other side, and manages to look like the kind of Jetson-junk “inventions” I drew as a kid.

The lens, too, has been improved, and the fixed 28mm-equivalent focal length now opens all the way up to a focus-flattening ƒ1.9, faster than the old ƒ2.4
