Oracle-Sun Update: Why IBM May Have a Reason to Celebrate
Oracle is an expert at acquisitions. Few do it better, but with Sun, it got a bunch of unique problems ( including a processor that no one seemed to want ), and they seem to be bleeding the value out of the company before Oracle can take control. Anecdotally, IBM, which had originally been trying to make the purchase, seems to be the biggest beneficiary of Sun’s customer attrition, suggesting that it may be getting much of the initial benefit without incurring massive cost and risk of making the acquisition.

RegHardware gave it a stand up 80%: The moment you switch over to BBC HD, everything seems to snap into focus – colours are bolder and the increased level of detail is immediately obvious.

Apple, in sharp contrast to Microsoft, clearly thinks IT managers don’t provide any value in terms of determining their products or solutions. But, if you look at the result, couldn’t you argue that the result is a more desirable product? I wonder whether Microsoft made a mistake to focus on the needs of IT because it pulled focus from the user; the result has been products like Vista that weren’t that attractive to users and didn’t move well in business anyway

Radically overhauled last year, Apple’s MacBook line of laptops moved to aluminium construction, edge-to-edge glass over LED displays, and oversize multitouch-touch pads (with the exception of the lone £749 white plastic model ). The latest round of updates is more of a refinement than another revolution, but it adds some much-sought-after features, while lowering prices on many configurations. Notably, the 13-inch aluminium unibody MacBook has been promoted to join the MacBook Pro family — and CNET.com’s Dan Ackerman gets his hands on it in this video.
